ACA goes Porto: an amazing team weekend!Sarah Mazzei
An early start of the weekend
Friday September 8, 2017 – 3.15 AM – ACA headquarters in Hasselt
Friday September 8, 2017 – 5.00 AM – Brussels Airport
In the middle of the night, more than 100 ACA team members gathered on 2 different locations to take flights to Porto for the ACA team weekend. Everyone was ready for a weekend of sunshine, fun activities, great food and some drinks 😉
A tour of Porto & its (beach) bars
Our arrival in Porto started great, there was only one person missing on the bus to the centre of Porto… 🙂 Luckily we soon discovered who we left at the airport and she met us at our breakfast location, arriving by taxi.
After breakfast, a couple of very enthusiastic guides gave us a tour of the city, including many interesting facts. Apparently Gustave Eiffel himself didn’t even build his famous bridge in Porto… And did you know that a lot of J.K. Rowling’s inspiration for the Harry Potter series came from Porto and its history?
Lunch was served in a little park/bar where we could enjoy the sun, while laying down in the grass. The food was great, but the drinks were even better thanks to our personal waiter! Some colleagues even decided to be a bit more daring by building a human pyramid.
After refreshing ourselves in our hostel, one of the 10 best hostels in the world, we were ready for some appetizers (both drinks and snacks) at a beach bar. The view on the ocean was great, but the water itself was freezing cold! Luckily the organizers of our team weekend, 3vents, were prepared and brought frisbees, beach volleyballs and beach tennis sets.
The great music turned it into a true party!
After a delicious dinner with a view on the ocean, those that weren’t too tired yet from an early start of the day even decided to explore the nightlife in Porto! It turned into a very short night for some people 😉
Canyoning & paddling
On the second day, we had to choose between two activities: canyoning or paddling and a 4×4 trip. The colleagues that went canyoning, had a very active day in which they could explore their limits. Climbing rocks, wading through the water and even jumping from cliffs were part of the deal!
The paddling group also did something new: some actually tried paddling. Strange enough only one person couldn’t stay on his board, the others reached shore again without tumbling into the water. Enjoying the sun on the beach and having some drinks was also a must of course! In the afternoon, this group explored the mountains close to Porto by 4×4. During a bumpy ride, they also visited some sight-seeing points.
In the early evening, the two groups came together again for a tour of Graham’s Port Lodge and a porto tasting. Following this last activity of the weekend, we had an amazing dinner with a view on Porto by night.
It was an evening full of great food, nice drinks and laughter & happiness.
Some people, however, weren’t ready yet for the weekend to come to an end… They visited the local bars in Porto or played games at the hostel until the early hours of the next day once again!
Sunday, our last day of the trip, was a day full of traveling.
The colleagues that left with the early flight were home by mid-afternoon and could relax for the rest of the day. The other group had to switch planes and actually got to see a little bit of Lisbon before hopping on the second plane.
All in all, an amazing team weekend with great memories to share. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for us next year! 😉
Last, but not least: we want to thank 3vents for organizing a fantastic ACA team weekend at a great location once again! They’re not only one of our wonderful partners, but after many years also a part of the team!
